It’s all in the Bible (even those Bible-believers who don’t go there) and I know plenty of Christians who love the Bible, but believe that the word of God should be interpreted literally.
My personal stance on divorce
God’s word says this (see the following verse in Romans 6):
“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23)
How will you deal with divorce?
If you’re a believer, you must go to court over every minor divorce proceeding in your family or household, including custody battles. Not only must you go to court, you must bring your children, parents, and all their “friends and family” with you! Most Christians like to claim that this makes divorce much less dangerous and a lot more palatable for your family/household, but the truth is that people who are having trouble with their divorce are not likely going to bring people with them into the courthouse. Those with serious problems or serious financial issues who have been in trouble and have not been able to find help are likely to not have friends and family to share the good news or be a friend or family member who will stand up for their family while the judge or judge’s wife tries her best to make the problem go away.
Many Christians have said that divorce means more pain in your family and will never work until you have a long-term solution in your life! I tell that to people who have tried divorce and it has not worked. They were not getting divorced!
What are some Christian beliefs and traditions about divorce?
Christian teachings about divorce have changed over time. What this means is that Christianity today is very different from the beliefs of Jesus. The Bible is an extremely detailed statement of what God believes from Genesis through Revelation. However, over the years, many changes have been made and many Christian teachings changed. In the past, there was some kind of “traditional” marriage. You married a man and a woman. The man was your breadwinner, and you married your husband and he was the caretaker of the house and your child. However, modern women have been taught to go to marriage in order to be independent from their husbands. You cannot go to marriage and be a stay-at-home mother. You must have children to sustain you or you must leave the marriage and have children yourself, but you can still get divorced!
