The “best diet for losing weight” is often a hotly contested debate.
But what we’ve come up with is a list of common reasons we tell people not to follow a particular diet.
Why we say you don’t need to follow a weight loss diet – and you are not alone
1. You will become overweight as a result of the weight loss you are trying to maintain.
2. You will not gain any weight as a result of the weight loss your diet is intended to achieve.
3. If you gain any weight, it will be too much for your body to manage. You’ll be obese when you lose it.
4. As you lose weight your body will “forget” its stored fat as well as its stored muscle. You will lose muscle.
5. You will have to use less food than you do now in order to maintain your weight loss without losing muscle.
6. The diet doesn’t always work for everyone and you should keep trying.
And many people will say, “but the doctor told me to do this!”
Our goal with this list is to set standards.
It’s not an exhaustive list of what is wrong with all the common diets for weight loss, but in general the list below is a good starting point.
Note that no diet works for everyone and it is not enough to say, “you don’t need to follow that diet for you”.
