At the time of the deaths, police say Thomas admitted shooting his wife, Kristine, in the neck and that he then shot himself.

Police say Thomas told them he shot Kristine after a physical altercation between him and her father.

The investigation revealed that Thomas had been upset with Kristine about a year before as he had gone through therapy about the killing of his sister Kristine.

Court records show that Thomas had previously been charged with a felony gun charge and had spent a significant amount of time in the Illinois state prison.

He was arrested Sunday and charged with first-degree murder and aggravated domestic battery, aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated battery with a weapon, reckless endangerment and possession of drugs for sale or supply, according to court records.

The man is being held at the Lake County Jail in lieu of $35,000 cash bail. He is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing next week, according to court records.
