How do you plan a music video shoot? – Dop Course

This depends on a big variety of factors. For me, video is a form of theater, so a great video will reflect the stage the band is in. And the band and I are not in the same space. So while I may shoot in the same spot, there is never a same shot because we all don’t see the same audience. So there is a lot of planning.

How do you shoot?

I can do a bit of everything, including shooting digital, even to the point of using a laptop as well as a tablet. If you are shooting digital, I highly recommend using Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro. Both programs excel in producing good movies, even if you don’t want to use a Mac.

Do you think that technology has played a role in the evolution of music video production?

I think technology played a role, but it could have played a bigger role. With the rise of mobile, and social media, people are now more likely to shoot more professionally. So I can’t say that technology played a role more than it could have because I think that has always played an important role.

You’ve been involved in music video projects in the past, what are your favorite shoots and why?

I’ve done some great music videos for the biggest bands in the world. There was The Killers, and my favorite one was a scene from the Killers movie.

The Killers? Are you telling me that you are one of the most famous band members in the world?

Of course they’ve done everything, and I will always be one of the most famous musicians in the world. However, I’ve never actually worked on a music video in the past two years – I was so busy with the movies that I was not in the industry enough that I could actually shoot a video. And I was so busy with the movies, I just didn’t have time.

I am a fan of the Black Keys’ new album “Keys to the Kingdom” for their video for “All of the Lights.” Have you seen it?

I did, and it was a great soundtrack for the movie and a great experience. I also loved it from beginning to end, I can’t wait until that music video comes out. It reminded me of my favorite childhood movies of all time – The Wizard of Oz and The Wizard of Oz: Dorothy and the Witch – that had such a great storytelling and emotional moments.
