This seems to be something that happens all the time with young MCs. Just like how music is now dominated by EDM, so too is hip hop music. These days your main objective can’t be to get a big profile for yourself or your project. Your career is solely focused on getting a record deal that could help you in the major way. You’re not being forced into a rap scene because you’re young, so don’t be too hard on yourself for not being a little hip. The problem is that these days you really only have two options, going all the way (maybe) to the top or letting it slip and then having little to no exposure in the underground at all. Just don’t be a dick when people question your artistic abilities.
What do you think are the biggest differences between rappers and rappers in their music scenes?
The main difference between hip hop and rap music is that if you go on these sites you’re getting an audio clip/video of “artistic” sounds that isn’t done in any way for your satisfaction. The only thing that you’re getting from their site is information about what songs they play. What I’m saying is that there is nothing artistic about rappers playing those same sounds you may come across from the street or local scene.
How do you react when someone says you’re a gangsta rapper?
Honestly I don’t. I like to think that I’m a very nice person and that my music is “real”. I’m also very open to criticism, and I would prefer people know more about the music they’re currently listening/playing.
What is your biggest secret weapon in battle rap?
I’ve had this little bit of an issue in the past few years that caused me to lose my mic and mic gear a lot. I’ve tried to avoid using it when performing, because it’s incredibly inconvenient when you’re on stage in front of thousands of people, when it’s hot and if you get beat up for any reason you can’t easily remove it. For the most part no one will ever notice any of it, and I’ve never missed a beat or missed a mic, especially at events like this where a lot of people will be watching your battle performance. If i’m on stage in some shitty arena, and I get beat up a lot then that’s fine, but when I can actually beat somebody up with it on in real life then I use it just to annoy the living daylights out of people.
