How can I make a battery? – Bayesian Model Evidence

This tutorial will show you how to make a battery from 3 different types of copper wire, copper wire with a small gauge and copper wire with a large gauge. These batteries can be used for electric cars, solar car batteries, flashlights and small electronics like printers/pens/clocks.

Before you begin, make sure you have 1 and 2 x 1″ long strips of copper wire with a small gauge. Cut this at right around 1/8″ wide and 2 inches long and secure each one to the PCB using the holes you just cut. They are made out of aluminum and the solder is already done when you start so it’s quite fast.

Cut a strip of metal and about 1/8″ in diameter. The strip should be around 1.5″ wide and about 2 inches long.

This is one of the hardest things you will want to do as if you go to leave solder residue on the pads on the PCB it will corrode the copper. If you use a very high temperature solder you can melt the holes and leave a black, burnt area on the pads. I used a few drops of flux and a paper towel to wipe it off. Now just repeat step 4 to make sure if your metal is completely dry.

Now we will need to cut the battery, the wire and the battery case using the drill. Use a jigsaw or a straight punch to cut and solder all four parts together before you cut the battery.

Cut the copper wire into pieces about 1/8″ wide and about 2 inches long. This is one of the only pieces of copper wire you will need as it is not needed for cars and computers.

There will always be enough copper wire to make it through a 2.54″ long hole.
