Raks (which pronounced like the R in Raksa, the name of an Iranian city where the program was carried out) is a term used to describe the system used in the United States to measure children’s progress. The United States government is in the process of developing a measure for measuring the academic achievement of children, which is expected to be released this fall.
The term “Raks” also refers to the performance-based evaluation that many countries in sub-Saharan Africa use to test and measure children’s academic performance. The term Raksi refers to the performance-based evaluation that is still used to evaluate children across sub-Saharan Africa.
The purpose of Raks is to evaluate the achievement of children in an appropriate setting, with a focus on the early years. The performance-based approach is similar to what is used by many other countries to evaluate student performance. Because Raks is a performance-based evaluation only, the evaluation may not be equal to what is used by other countries.
How Does Roms Work?
An Roms system requires multiple data points – some school data and others – to build a comprehensive picture of how the child performs on a specific task, such as reading aloud. The data points used by Roms may be collected from a variety of sources, including children’s play experiences or the children’s peers on the Internet. Some data points may be collected for a particular child on a particular day, or from multiple students. Once data are collected using Roms, the system uses them to evaluate which children, which tasks, and which opportunities are most likely to help the child achieve their educational goals.
Once the data are collected, Roms evaluates and ranks the child’s achievement by these specific outcomes of each child over time. These outcomes include the child’s progress for math, reading and science, using math and reading and science as the primary components of the evaluation. A student who receives a grade of “A” or a grade of “B” or “C” can be rated as “exceedingly good.” A student who receives a grade of “D” or a grade of “F” cannot be rated as excelling at all.
When Roms evaluates a child, the data provided by the teacher and the student are integrated in a formula (Roms) that combines all of the information available about the child from a variety of sources.
